Split Southern Province into Two, Fenete Urges Govt

Renowned Livingstone businessman Evans Fenete has appealed to the government to consider breaking Southern Province into two provinces. Fenete, a former police officer, made the remarks during the opening of his refurbished Limpo’s Pub and Grill in Livingstone.

According to Fenete, business in Livingstone has been negatively impacted since Choma became the provincial capital. He argued that the decision to move the capital from Livingstone to Choma has led to a significant decline in economic activity in the tourism city.

“I appeal to the government to consider dividing Southern Province into two provinces, with Livingstone as the capital of one province,” Fenete said. “This will help to revitalize the economy of Livingstone and create more opportunities for the local people.”

Fenete’s proposal has sparked debate among residents of Southern Province, with some supporting the idea and others opposing it. Proponents argue that creating a new province would bring more development and investment to the region, while opponents claim that it would lead to unnecessary administrative costs and duplication of services.

The government has not yet responded to Fenete’s proposal. However, the idea of dividing Southern Province into two provinces is not new. There have been previous calls for the creation of a new province, with some suggesting that the province be divided along the Zambezi River, with Livingstone and surrounding districts forming one province and Choma and surrounding districts forming another.
